My fellow veterans:
I am pleased to officially announce the blog of the Windy City Veterans. Please feel free to share ideas, make suggestions and to use this site to gain information and recruit new members.
Speaking of which, a new member instructed me on how to create this blog site. Thank you Sgt. Walsh of CPD's 006 District.
Yesterday's fundraiser turned out to be one of the most successful in the history of the Windy City Veterans Association. Your efforts and contributions are going to allow us to present a check for $8000.00 to the Manteno Veterans Hospital. That is doubled the amount of last year! We have shown our commitment to the Manteno veterans is loyal and dedicated. I am honored to be your President. Thank you for all of your support.

Respectfully yours,
Martin E. Tully

A lot of people have been asking me if you have to be a combat veteran to join? The answer to that is no. Even if you served stateside your entire military career, you are still a veteran.
We MUST get the word out to our friends, family members and coworkers that if they served in the military, then they are veterans. We are all about veterans.
Thank you to whoever sent the info. about the Christmas cards for wounded veterans. Excellent idea!

This Holiday season is a tough time for those serving overseas. Let us remember that the WCVA has several members preparing to go into combat as we speak. If I have forgotten anyone it's because I have not received word of their deployment.

Matthew Gill USMC
Milan "Mickey" Sipic (Contractor)
Luis Rivera Jr. USA

NEVER FORGET those who are serving, have served and those still unreturned.
May God bless you all.

Marty, nice job on the blog. I am telling my friends to visit the site. They are on the fence about joining a veteran's group. Maybe you can convince them and bring them in?

You just steer your veteran friends my way and I will do what I can. I have been recruiting veterans into WCVA since I took office in May. I will gladly speak to any of your friends to make them members.
If they are UNSURE and do not wish to meet in person, then just give me their email address or phone number and I will start from there.
Thanks for visiting the site.

FELLOW POLICE OFFICERS!!!
Here is info. on how you can write a letter to Mike Mette to show support. Remember, he is the CPD cop who got FIVE YEARS in an Iowa prison for simply defending himself. He threw a punch in self-defense and got railroaded badly by the justice system of Iowa.

Mr. Michael A. Mette #6520284
Iowa Medical and Classification Center
Box A Highway 965
Oakdale, IA. 52319

NEVER QUIT MIKE! HANG TOUGH!

WINDY CITY VETS said...

Many of you do not know how to access Second City Sarge from the link page, so I have taken down the important info. concerning the Mike Mette Defense Fund.

Mike Mette Defense Fund
Northwest Community Credit Union
7400 N. Waukegan Rd.
Niles, IL 60714

I believe in leading by example, so yes, I have donated to Mike's Defense Fund.

I have also written him a letter of support too.

Remember, the injustice he received could happen to any of us Brothers in Blue! It all amounted to one punch in self-defense.

THINK ABOUT THAT.....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE MARINE CORPS VETERANS!!! ENJOY YOUR SPECIAL DAY AND HAVE ONE FOR YOUR MARINES FAR AWAY FROM HOME!!!

WINDY CITY VETS said...

God bless all you veterans who served this great Country! Enjoy this special day and NEVER FORGET those who are still fighting for freedom.
Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

WINDY CITY VETS said...

You will notice I had to take down the post about mailing packages to Walter Reed Hospital.
The US Post Office WILL NOT mail packages, letters, cards, etc to an unspecified name of a soldier.
They state they are unable to do this task.
Thank you for your support and good wishes towards these recovering heroes.
"A Recovering Soldier" was an excellent idea, but unfortunately the resources (USPS) at our disposal are quite simply pathetic!

WINDY CITY VETS said...

Today Hazelgreen School and it's Principal Carin Novak demonstrated what SUPPORT THE TROOPS really means. It was truly an honor to witness such devotion to troops everywhere. They were presented a US flag which the 4th Cav flew over in Iraq and a beautiful plaque. They in turn presented the VFW Post 450 a handcrafted album dedicated to veterans.
The atmosphere in the school was filled with brilliant enthusiasm and patriotism.
Thank you VFW Post 450 Honor Guard for presenting the flag to Principal Carin Novak.
Thank you WCVA Ken Hiatt for your attention to duty as you fielded the tough questions from the grade schoolers. Some of these kids reminded me of Geraldo Rivera. LOL...Seriously, you were awesome brother!

I was deeply honored to hear how everyone who attended the bus trip had a spectacular time.
That's what we are all about! Manteno veterans have a better quality of life because of people like you all. You are what makes our veteran's group like no other!
Thanks for the laughter and fond memories.
Hopefully, the question of "Who is Ken Hiatt?" has been answered!

Today at the C.C. Grove "Toys for Tots" collection point there were hundreds of people donating toys to needy children.
The event was loud, fun-filled and exhilarating. Even those of us from Windy City Veterans Association who were not bikers, enjoyed the good food and music.

American Knights Motorcycle Club,

Thank you for inviting the Windy City Veterans Association to your event. It was a good time for all.

Our dear brother Barney O'Reilly suffered a massive heart attack earlier today. Barney collapsed at TR's Pub and thankfully was revived by CFD personnel after dying twice.
Let us keep our Brother and his family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
We love you Barney!

Friends,
If you think about it, please purchase at least one Christmas gift from Sears. Here's why:
By law, they are required to hold called up reservists' jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually reservists take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result.

NOT SEARS reservists:
Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits including medical insurance and bonus programs, for ALL called up reservist employees up to two years.
Happy Holidays!
Way to go Sears!!!!

Yes, it's true...God answered our prayers. Barney is doing great. I went and visited him today and he was very much alert and talkative. He remembers many things and is showing no sign of slowing down.
What a Christmas miracle to behold!

Thank you to everyone who said their prayers and thought about Barney during this tragic time.

You can visit Barney at Rm 918 South in Christ Hospital.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

WINDY CITY VETS said...

Merry Christmas to all you veterans and your families! Thank you for all of your thoughts, support and prayers concerning our very own Barney O'Reilly. He has come around so well that you could kind of say it was truly a Christmas miracle.
Let's not forget our many troops serving overseas at this time. Remember they are still out there fighting for our freedom.
May God bless each and every one of our veterans this 2008.
FYI, if you go past Beverly Woods on Western, you will happily notice a huge sign wishing the WCVA a Merry Christmas!

Here's to a fantastic New Year!

Barney O'Reilly had a successful triple by-pass surgery yesterday as well.

Yes, the psyche test scandal is being looked into. The special committee to City Council already had it's first preliminary hearing and believe me, the word is out.
I, for one, am letting every vet and their family know what is going on? I have posted quite a few comments on the Second City Cop blog about the scandal.
I have also informed various politicians in Springfield, IL.
