Dear Captain Tully,
This draft should appear in Chicag Windy City Veterans Give 100% - All of the Time
“By the end of the week, he'll be accusing me of being a secret communist because I shared my toys in kindergarten. I shared my peanut butter and jelly sandwich.” Senator Barack Obama
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/10/29/politics/fromtheroad/entry4556317.shtml
No Senator, that is called charity – the act of giving. It is an individual thing. You give your peanut butter sandwich to someone else.
Giving is what America’s Veterans are all about. When they were 17 or 18 years old, like Senator John McCain was when he entered Annapolis, these kids gave themselves body and soul to their Country.
Many of them went to war. The men and women who fought WWII are dying at a rate of 1,500 souls per day. The Veterans of Korea are stepping into their boots, along with the Veterans of Vietnam, Desert Storm, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, Somalia, the Balkans, Iraq, and Afghanistan. They are making sure that the Veterans who gave so much for Freedom get what they need.
Windy City Veterans of Chicago give 100% of what they raise for the Manteno Veterans Home and Skilled Care Facility in Manteno, Illinois. This is sacrifice without remuneration. Something only Veterans seem to understand. They do not pay a staff or some executive director; they do not take contributions and ‘set aside’ costs. Veterans of the Windy City Veterans give 100% - like they have for America – to needs of the Veterans at Manteno Facility.
Here is a note from Windy City Veterans President Martin J. Tully*:
Due to unforeseen circumstances out of our control, the Windy City Veterans Annual Fundraiser had its venue changed at the last minute. This fundraiser is extremely important because it benefits the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno. These veterans sacrificed when called to do so and now we ALL need to show our support for these brave men and women. We are a community based veterans group made up of veterans both peacetime and war.
The cost of admission is $25.00 which covers the cost of food, beverages, music and entertainment.
Our fundraiser is no longer at TR's Pub. We are now having the fundraiser at BEVERLY WOODS located at 11532 S. Western Ave. The time will still be 6:30-11:30pm on NOVEMBER 7th 2008.
Many of our members are CPD officers and veterans. We are always helping other causes...especially military and police related.
Thank you for assisting us in getting the word out in such a short length of time.
Respectfully Yours,
Martin Tully
President of the Windy City Veterans Association
Here’s the deal – many Chicago business leaders read Chicago Daily Observer; many talented people contribute to this fine news site let’s give the people who gave so much to ensure our Freedoms here at home. Let’s support the efforts of Chicago’s Windy City Veterans.
How about some well-heeled plutocrat stepping up with a huge drop for this fund-raiser; how about some end-of-the-year Corporate Citizenship making a grant of a match to whatever Windy City Veterans pull in on November 7th at Beverly Woods.
It is not like sharing your peanut butter sandwich or toys. Charitable Giving is as American as the blood shed in defense of our Freedoms. This is a no brain-er – 100% of the money donated goes directly to Manteno Veterans Center. Make a donation. Make a making gift. Better yet – Stop by Beverly Woods on November 7th and make it a personal give – the men and women this benefits did so for you.
